You can experience pingbacks when you reference other posts within your word press blog. Using the blogging system WordPress automatically sends pingbacks when you like back to previous articles creating a link between two blog entries.

This is important for traffic because of how search engines work.  If you want search engines to find evry page on your blog, you can make sure they find every page by interlinking.  The search engine spiders trawl around the web following links and indexing all the content of web pages.

If your site is internally linked well, then it makes it easy for the spiders to index every page of your blog. The search engine spiders look at web pages, not web sites, and pages are ranked based on how many other pages link to it. This means when you link one blog post to another, you are helping your blog articles earn better search engine rankings and will help bring in more search traffic.

Doing lots of links to your blogs posts in every new post will not do anything for your traffic and turn off your readers, but a few well placed linking patterns can be very helpful. Linking back to articles that mention the same terms in a new blog post can help your readers grasp your content and concepts and it helps the rankings.

Get your keywords and phrases right for you new post. The key is to link your blog entries together using the right keywords. The keywords you use as anchor text (the text that is underlined as links) helps define whtat the search engine will rank well for.  Let’s say your blog topic is related to “marketing automation” You should reference it in new blog posts.  This helps that page rank well for the term “marketing automation“.

One very good reason to interlink your blog articles is to increase your pageviews.  You obviously want to increase the number of pageviews so that readers stay longer and read more of your blog content. If you do this well in a logical manner, you create a good way for readers to navigate through your blog.

It is very important to implement this on your blog to link back to previous posts.  Don’t worry so much about keywaords and use logical anchor text links.  If you do this well for humans, you will do well for search engines also.  Don’t get completely caught up with your keywords and trying to link your articles with keywords. You just determine whether it is appropriate to link to another article that contains relevant content.  It only takes a minite and it can provide great search engine rankings, increased pageviews and longer stays on your blog.
